Where to buy American flag fish in the UK
Hi there, I'm in south west England and desperately trying to track down an American Flag Fish to eat the hair algae in my tank. Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy one? Or what other fish would eat the hair algae? I have 4 cory's but they don't touch it?
Check out these guys, I am originally from the UK and used them a few times.
I would not purchase a fish though with a view to tackling a problem. You need to work out why the hair algae is coming in the first place. Over feeding, poor tank conditions, too much light can all contribute to hair algae growth.
Check you nitrate levels with a liquid test kit such as API, reduce the amount of time you have your lights on 6-8 hours should be enough and only feed as much as the fish can eat within a minute or 2.
Vacuuming the tank regularly will help remove waste from the substrate and prevent a deterioration in water conditions.
You can remove hair algae by swirling a cocktail stirrer or skewer around near it and removing it by hand.
