My Jack Dempsey A.K.A. the JACKAL!

my other thread got locked, so i felt like restarting another for em.
hes about 2-1/2- 3 inches right now, and has quite a little personality! iam pretty sure he recognizes my face, and as i posted in cichlidmom's thread "cichlids are awesome!" he nips at my hands and arms whenever i move things around or do a vacuum on the gravel.

i wasnt real clear with a question i posted in the original thread so i'll clarify.
Will he be okay in my 29 gallon for a while and at what size should i move him into a bigger tank?

heres some pictures (most people have seen em before but ya know) 8)
they are quite large :P

Depending upon his growth rate, I'd begin looking(and saving) for another larger tank now. A 55g is appropriate, but the idea of a deeper, front to back, tank is better. A 70g/90g tank would be awesome for "Jackal". Instead of nipping at your hands and arms he may try to hug you with his fins. Now wouldn't that be cute?

yep, that be a little elegant corydora. i do realize he needs more corys to feel alot more secure.

whats in with them is 8 zebra danios and 1 common pleco. when it gets warmer iam gunna see if this fish place near me will take the pleco, seen as he gets too big and makes a monster of a mess.
whats a small pleco that would work in there? or something like a pleco that does the same kind of cleaning job without the long strands of poo?

Heres a pic for ya blue, full tank shot, i need some taller plants in the back, iam going to pic some up today.

Nice JD!

If his growth rate is anything similar to a severum, my severum went from about 2-1/2 to 3" to about 5" in less than 3 months. They grow fast!

thats definently a good growth rate! bout 2 1/2 inches in 3 months.

i got mine when he was about 2 inches or so and hes now 3- 3 1/2", i got em in January, when i bought em the a girl at the lfs told me it was a green texas cichlid, but after its colors developed i looked up Dempsey's. and the woman was lookin at a picture of an older green texas while it was still a juvi!

i also have a question about something i just read, on wiki that when a jack reaches 3-4 inches it can eat platys, i dont normally trust wiki so i thought i'd ask.

You're best to go with the same species. Groups of 6 or more are best.

Ah, I want a cic in my tank. Got to talk to Saganco about his HRP's again. :)
