Sterbai cory's not schooling.
I have 6 Sterbai Cory's in my 75g tank and they're not as active as the first few days I had them. This past Sunday I found one dead under a piece of driftwood and since then they all seem to be loners just laying on the sand by themselves. I've had them about a month now and I'm a little concerned something may be wrong. I do plan on replacing the 6th one but just haven't had time to get to my LFS. Any help is appreciated.
Cory's Lossly shoal - the shoal but not as a tight group. Thats what I found my my cories - It's pretty normal for me :D
If they are laying on the sand, there is trouble. Are they upright, or on their side slightly? What is the respiration rate?
As for shoaling, a cory will be relaxed if it has other corys around it in the tank. They may or may not swim around in groups, or in a species. I have over 30 corys in my 115g, representing 12 or so species. Some are out and about all the time, singly, in twos, threes; some are together (as a species) more than others [could be just 2 or 3 of the species group of say 4 or 5]; some chum around cross-species; others are always "alone" exploring.
All of them are always upright and as far as respiration it seems normal. If one Cory swims by another one that one will follow. My LFS owner said that this is normal. Just wanted other opinions.
Yes, that sounds fine. They need a rest now and then, and they are quite active during total darkness too. Many of mine I only see at feeding time; otherwise, they are in behind chunks of wood and plants, resting I assume.
