Need a few new center pieces
my current stock for my main tank and tanks specs are
250 Litres (approx)
48" X 17" X 21" (4 FT long)
i have large gravel
tough plants (java fern and soon java moss)
lots of hiding spots
2 Silver (Bala) shark's
3 clown loach
4 Glass Cat's
20-30 mollies (from juvinile - full sized adult 3.5")but the juv's can be moved if need be
3 golden weather (Dojo) Loach
1 mid sized pleco approx 8.5" expected to grow to 3FT so i will have to re-home him or find a 8FT tank as soon as i get my own place i'm sure i can do this in time too!!! but do not want to pick any other fish that will need a bigger house in case i don't manage get a 6FT
it can't be anything like a kiribensis or anything much like the crib in the way of being very territorial over the ground surface because it will attach my loach
something semi peaceful because my mollies can get quite aggressive with fish larger than them that try to nip at them as my GSP's (green spotted puffer's) that tried nipping at a few got a surprise much like i did when 3 large mollies pinned it in the corner of the tank for long enough for me to grab my net lol
there's not much using ground level
3 small clowns and 3 weather loach 2 of which are 8.5"
other is half the size brought with one eye as deformed as they come and the best fish in tank at the time to this day he is still the most active loach and this teaches me for not checking in the bag for the one's he caught lol
happy days now because after doing some temp work there and cleaning 100 odd tanks and main system's and changing thing's around to be more to hand i now net my own fish :) i get the pick :=D
mid level are few mollies and my 2 6" and 7.5" Bala's
top level is mainly mollies and glass cats with occasional visit from shark's
i can get most rare fish and just want colorful and inter esting not to small
max size full grown i want is 6-8"
First fish that comes to mind is Boeseman Rainbowfish. I'm pretty fond of my crew of them.
Check them out in the Tropical Fish Profiles at the top of the main page of the forum.
I am also a fan of the rainbows above, and think they would make a great center piece.
I will point out though;
You mention you might not be able to get bigger than your current 4ft.....Both the balas and clowns would require AT LEAST a 6 ft tank, and 8ft would be much better.
Your balas should also be in a group of no less than 5.
Clowns no less than 6 in a group.
You may want to consider both of these, and the fact your tank is also too small for both species when thinking about future stocking options.
Another point to consider here, is what temperature are you running your tank at? Your weather loaches are really cold water fish and though can live at tropical temps short term, it isnt recommended for them long term as cause cause damage etc.
i meant i will be getting 6 FT but not sure if can get 8ft yet as depend on where i move out to i got about 2 an half years before i need to rehouse bala's an probs longer on the pleco
will a few still be ok ?
I don't have a loach but I can tell you that I did have them in with a pleco at one time with no issues. But when I found out what a poop machine the pleco was, I re-homed him. Plus I only had a 45 gallon at the time and the pleco needed a bigger footprint.
It's not really an aggression issue with Boesemani but rather that they are a very active fish and may make shy, docile fish nervous. When I had Rainbows the males very constantly challenging each other and zipping around the tank. They used every inch if my 4 foot tank. I've never kept Glass Cats but have heard they can be very shy so there might be an issue with them.

the glass cats hide behind plants all day anyway so should soon adapt i would think the same as im sure the bala's will get used to them but i dont want them running into things and dislocating it's gaw or bashing it's self up while getting used to them
so collective opinion then should i go and get 3-4 and see how they go?
Drop the balas, replace with 6 boese's IMO.
my fav fish
an i think i missed a bit of explanation before
the bala's are mega skitish with any new addition other wise they are fine but i do not want one getting a dislocated gaw i guess they would be fine tho
