Purchased new stand and new tank/stand kit
 

I just do not trust my metal stand holding two tanks. So I went on a little shopping spree. Should I of spent what I did? No cause im sure now something will come up where I could use the money but oh well. I got a 45 gallon tank with stand (thought it was a bow front but I was wrong its called 45 gallon arch). Heres the pic

Then I purchased this stand to rest one of the existing tanks one (so that leaves me a tank to sell to get some money back). I asked a neighbour to come set the stand up and put it together because theres no way I trust myself to do it properly.

Now my next question is could I trust the stand meant for 37/40 gallon tanks to hold my 45 gallon? I want to say no. The measurements are the same 38 by 12 1/4 but the 45 gallon is taller then the 38 gallon. I paid $419 for both. Would of paid an additional $100 had they not of been on sale. $55 of this total was taxes :/

Also, my floor isnt to level. Its not horrible. I can just shove something under the one leg to make it more level? Anywhere in the basement where the tank can go is the same story as the whole basement slopes gradually towards the drain in the laundry room

ETA also wanted to ask. The tank on the top of the metal stand will be going on the stand I bought, if I drain that one and left the 35 gallon filled on the bottom of the stand will that be okay for a while?

Did the dog come with the package? Sweet.

The stand will take the extra weight, it's over engineered a bit I am sure.

The bottom tank on the old stand will be fine, it's the top that does the damage when the stand wobbles.

Nice! I picked up a tank from them last week. They are running a sale on tanks thru Feb 3 I think.

You can shim, use wooden shim material that is at least the same size as the foot, not cardboard. You can get shims at a hardware store, I suppose in plastic but I use wooden shim material used for plumbing door frames.

I dont have any shims and im literally out of money for another 2 weeks :( I may have some of those felt thingies you use to keep sliding furniture from damaging the floor.

I got the light and hood with the kit, a food sample, water conditioner sample and $2.00 off water conditioner and $2.00 off food. I already have filters, heaters, sand etc. Essentially all i am doing is taking the top 38 gallon and putting it onto the stand I bought and selling the metal stand with the other tank since I bought a tank/stand set as well.

The dog is my 5 year old Belgian Malinois with a tad bit of German Shepherd in him. Hes my partner :)

"Tad bit of German Shepard"? Other than the slightly smaller paws, Not much looks not Shephard to me... Of course I'm not familiar with the Malinois to know what to look for I guess.

Well, the important thing is to not use something that can compress for a shim... or something that could slip out easily or break down when wet. Wide and flat. The cushions compress. Don't fill the tank until it's shimmed, you'll regret it if the stand twists and stresses the glass.

Hmmmm.... cut a vinegar bottle up (or one of those types of whitish plastic bottles) and use as many of those pieces as it takes to take up the space. Cut them round and slightly larger than the foot and just stack them. They might seem slippery but they won't go anywhere with hundreds of pounds of tank and water on top. Just make sure that they stay put while you start.

So you bought two stands and one new tank then... I thought you just went with the new tank and stand combo. ambitious project.

After reading up on horror stories of metal stands I decided to not risk it. Its still able to hold one tank but not in my house lol. I went ahead and bought a tank/stand set then another stand to sit one of the existing tanks on.

I can see what I can dig up to use as a leveler under the one leg im sure I can figure something out I may even have some wood paneling here from when we did the basement.

As for the dog, yeah oddly enough his fathers father was 1/3 German Shepherd. Everything else is Malinois. They are used in the military/police. Apparently, this breed is the breed that was there when they took down Osama Bin laden. Not sure if theres any truth. Malinois only get 55-60lbs. 60lbs is a big Malinois. Hes 63.

Congrats on the new stand! I just had to pipe in..I saw Malinois were mentioned! I have 2 of them. My Malinois Rusty is 75 lbs (on the right), and not an ounce of fat. His sibling, Megan is 65 lbs.
