Identification help with a snail please.. :)
I discovered this little dude in my small tank today (currently empty of fauna, or so I thought!) and I have no idea where he came from! The tiny bit of Anubias plant in there seems to be too small to have had any stowaways, but you never know I s'pose... As for the driftwood (not that you can see it), it was completely dry and wrapped in plastic when I bought it, so I can't imagine a snail being able to live in there...
Anyway, sorry about the ramble.. Any idea on his/her identity? Scoots around pretty fast, and would be about the size of a small pea.. The top half of the shell is almost clear, but that may be because it's only young?
Thanks in advance all :-D
I have had those snails in the past and despise them because I once got an aquarium potted plant and found them. Put them in a perfectly healthy aquarium and a couple days later, I saw one of them with worms coming out of its body. Not only that, but they will breed really fast even unnoticed. Oh yeah, if they have worms they are fast reproducers also.
They look like common pond snails (I think also known as Bladder snails).
Yup. Those do look like pond snails. They're hardy little buggers. Mine survive outside year-round. They're not any threat to your fish or healthy plants.
Thanks everyone :-) Just didn't want anything nasty in my tanks... I've found a few in my big tank as well since posting this and am removing them so I don't get over run.. lol
