How many marbles to cover a 10 gallon?

I have a ten gallon tank set aside for breeding that I want to cover the bottom with marble to breed celestial pearl danios. I will also be using java moss so the marbles may not be necessary but I don't think they would hurt and would be helpful for other species in the future.

So, any one have any estimate on how many marbles I would need to cover a ten gallon and inch or how how ever deep you think they would be (I'm new to this).

I would start off with 75-100 and see how well coverage/depth is.

Can I ask, why marbles? Are you interested in their look or the gaps between for sheltering eggs/fry?

If for protection, I recommend bare bottomed/thin sand layer with LOADS of plants such as water wisteria etc. You can tie the roots to rocks or plant them in mini pots for easy cleaning around them. Marbles will also trap a LOT of waste and could cause the water to foul more quickly.

Well if you quickly calculate how many you would need for one layer, I know its not real accurate, but I come up with 266. I don't think 75-100 would do the trick.

I'm looking to shelter the eggs, yes. I do plan on filling it with plants as well but I guess I just read that's what you do with danios. I know on the CPD forum a lot of people dont and just use plants. I do also like the way marbles look. If I only have a thin layer of marbles, lets say 2-4 deep, do you think that would trap too much waste?
