Is it possible to have too much filtration? I have a uv filter and it seems very powerful and makes lots of bubbles! I have tried to point it at the glass so it's not to strong for the fish to swim against but it doesn't seem to be helping much. I usually use a fluval 4 (old style) but it didn't seem to make much movement. I don't want to damage my fish but both the pumps came with my tank so no instructions
Thank you in advance
Hi Rose, welcome to TFK!
Although some fish enjoy a good current, many, if not most, do not and it forces them to 'work' very hard to even remain still. This can be very stressful for some fish.
Like the use of activated carbon, most folks here by consensus see little need for a UV sterilizer. Although they can be very effective treating an algae problem, many would suggest that the root cause is elsewhere (nutrients and lighting). If you can't reduce or redirect the flow, you might consider not using it at all.
