Mystery snail growing different lookiing shell
:-? I have a mystery snail that shares his home with a pleco, mollies, guppies,and teras and I've noticed that his shell is looking different than when I first got him. I wonder if I should add some calcium to the tank and will it be ok for the other fish? I have added a picture of my snail.
I think that adding copper would be best and it could also be mysterious copper deposits either from your aquarium supplies or who knows what.
so, do I need to add copper, and will it be ok with the other fish that my snail share his tank with, how much?
I can't view the pic because my phone is low on juice, but copper should not be added as it is harmful to inverts. What are you feeding him? He may need more calcium in his diet which can be easily accomplished by crushing a bit of cuddlebone, placing it in a cup of water, putting in an algea waffer to absore the powder, and then tossing it in the tank. As a side note, tank water would have to be EXTREAMLY soft to cause major problems. Most of the time, erosion is dietary or diet combined with soft water.

I second Bluewind, NO copper for tanks with inverts.

Kit, different shell growth is normal for apple snails. This is fine as the shell continued to grow in an entirely new environment.
Even minute traces of copper can kill snails and shrimps. Please be very careful with your advice. Invertebrates are quite prone to metal traces especially copper and any tank laced with copper is rendered dangerous for just about any invertebrate as the traces of copper take a very long time to disappear.
