What do I do with this skimmer! Ok so I got a used skimmer from someone, it's the Tunze 9002. I know the water level should be about 1" below the top of the plastic tower, but what else do I need to know about this thing. Do I simply place it in my sump to the correct water level and plug it in? Sorry for the newbie question, I know more-or-less what it does, but I just don't know how to install it i guess lol. Thanks for any help you guys can give! |

Thanks Reefing! I didnt get it in a box or anything, so no manual.. And judging by the manual, im also missing a few pieces! but luckily nothing too necessary. Is there anything I can expect my skimmer to do in the next few days? right now my tank only has snails, 3 shrimps and a few crabs, so I guess it doesn't have much of a load to work with yet, right? |
I would be concerned at the missing parts as they all do something and might be required to properly tune the skimmer. |
Yes your right, but I meant the missing brush to clean it, the magnet on the back, and the cover of the cup. A brush is easy to find on my own, the previous user create some sort of support to hang the skimmer on the glass, and I found a tupperware cover that fits very nicely on top of the collection cup, so I think it'll all work out. As far as the pieces inside, everything seems to be there. |
So it's been about a full day and I don't see any bubbles at all, or anything happening for that matter. This isn't normal right? Is it because I didn't find the sweet spot yet for that little blue knob on the side? Also my skimmer came with a airline tube attached to is and a (different) small blue knob at the end to let out more air. Should that knob be opened or closed (or how much opened)? And how open should the regular little blue knob be opened? I played with it for a while yesterday and I never saw any foam or bubbles... Maybe I didn't turn it far enough? Man this skimmer confuses me :( |
Turn the air all the way on. Blue knob until the bubbles get into the neck of the skimmer cone. |
Thanks again reefing. I had found the right combination earlier tonight but didn't get a chance to post on here! So now that I have bubbles at the neck of the cone, what can I expect in the upcoming days from my skimmer? Since I have no fish in there yet (just snails, crabs, shrimps) will the bubbles rise over time? Not entirely sure what to expect. |
You'll still get some nasty green brown stinky skimmate from it. You just get more when you add a bioload. |
