New tanks :)
I finally set up the two new tanks. The top ones about 37 gallons or so the bottom one is 35 gallons. A step up from the 29 and 25 gallon ones I had prior. I paid $160 for both, plus some accessories such as a filter, heaters, plants and gravel. I wanted a 55 gallon but this was the one I found with delivery. Was also the cheapest. Heres a couple pics, the one corner has a chip in it (noticed it after) the guy said he would take them back if I didnt want them but I think the chip will hold its on the inner pane. My cichlids are so much happier in here. Also, any suggestions on the decor? I got lot of hiding spots for the cichlids.
This one is the cichlid tanks
This ones filled with some platys, 2 mollies and some tetras as well as a bala shark (that im currently trying to rehome)
and the chip
Seeing as though you asked :-)
I'd strip out the gravel and add sand. But then I always hate the fake looking coloured gravel.
I'd then strip out the ornaments and go with a much more natural look, ocean rock, or other stones, or perhaps even wood.
But this is just my 0.02 and I personally just hate fake ornaments etc :-)
What you've done with it if you like it isn't actually all that bad.
This shouldn't be a problem if you clean it properly. And if you ever needed to stir it up etc you could always just switch it off for an hour.
There's a specific cichlid sand you can buy - I thinks - but I'm sure you can just use regular play sand which would be much cheaper.
It's a complete drain. You will also have to clean it. Repeatedly. Again and again.
If your going with play sand just get it from home depot. Will cost you about $5.
Maybe come spring I will change to sand because then I can bring the outside hose in through the window and fill the tanks back up that way then just add a few buckets of hot water to bring the temp up so it heats faster. I counted the number of buckets I needed to fill each tank tonight...15 for the one and 17 for the other O.o Dont wish to repeat that so soon :P. But I will budget for sand and will grab some come spring. I could start by putting sand in my 2.5 gal with the betta and 5.5 tank as well to see how I like it. So much easier to complete drain those tanks
I was looking into this sand will this do?
KING | KING play sand 20kg | Home Depot Canada
Yeah I would imagine that would do the job. Pm Byron or someone in Canada as he uses play sand, so he might be your best bet, though he'll no doubt post here later.
Is it cheap?
Ya it was $7.00 for 40lbs
