film on water surface?

did a search but could only find stuff related to freshwater.

put a skimmer in my 14g cube about a week ago. there is no room now for the charcoal filter so i just have some filter floss in the middle compartment to catch crud. but, i have noticed a very thin film on the water surface. looking down into the tank, it makes it look cloudy. what is this? should i point my power head more toward the surface to keep it agitated?

water params all good.

tia :)

Likely protein build-up at the surface. Using a surface skimmer to feed the protein skimmer helps.

Morning, point the powerheads towards the surface more to break this up for you.

oh don't feel bad. i called you "matt" for like 3 weeks! LOL

just as i was getting ready to adjust one of the power heads, i looked into the tank and the film has mysteriously disappeared. go figure! i will keep an eye on it and adjust as necessary. :)
