assorted african cichlids
What are these? And how many of them can school in a 75 gal with a few Kuhlis?
Did you change your mind about goldfish? :o
All i know is there are many different kinds of African cichlids.
Olympia told me they'd do best alone and destroy anything that isn't rocks. I guess it's a good thing they're prettier than any decor.
I've done some research too, and it all seems to read the same thing.
Assorted African cichlids are usually ones which people have returned to the store. They can be hybrids or pure strains of the fish. Chances are though, they were given to the store as either the fish are aggressive or the tank became too small for them.
No africans should be kept with Kuhlis they will kill the kuhlis. Africans need to be in a species only tank with bottom feeders known to work such as BN plecos and synodontis.
I have seen several lfs's with tanks that say assorted african cichlids and I have seen where it says the same thing at online stores. These can be a mix of Mbuna, Haps and/or Peacocks. You just don't know what you are actually getting, frustrating I know.
My advise, go to the store that you where wanting to purchase from and take a few pics, post them and someone here will be able to tell you what they are. If the store won't let you take pictures of their stock, I would think twice about purchasing from them.
If you are going to purchase from an online retailer, take the time to call them and find out what they include in their assortments and make sure you can specify only mbuna or haps or peacocks, this way you have a better chance of not mixing things that shouldn't be mixed.
I hope this helps at least a little.
