problem with striped raphael

hi i am having a problem with my large striped raphael. well he got this large spot on his head, then it got fuzzy looking. well i went to the petshop and got some medication called pimafix. it says to remove the active carbon and treat for 7 days...well i did that and lost two upside down cats! my raphael was getting better but now its back. my tank (20 gal)cant sustain being without the filter. what do i do?
here is a few pics of my raphael.

Combine usingPimaFix with MelaFix as directed on the labels. I doubt that the meds caused the deaths of your Synodontis'. These products are a natural derivative and should not cause harm to those fish. I've used both and treated burns on my Synodontis' with great results.

You don't need to remove the filter. In fact, you shouldn't. Just remove the carbon and replace it with filter floss - very cheap and easy tro get a hold off.

I agree that neither of the mentioined meds would cause the death of your 2 synos as long as you dosed correctly.
