O-ring lube

What is the best thing to use as a lube for O-rings in my pump?

I have a Magnum 350.

I have heard that silicone vacuum grease and vasaline are options. Which is the best one? Less risk of damage to the tank (fish) and to the O-rings themselves?

Buying new O-rings is cheap, but a pain to find the right sizes.

Thanks.

I use vegetable(peanut) oil.

My reason for using peanut oil is it is easier to work with and less mess. I keep a small cup in the cabinets just for that purpose. I have used petroleum jelly, but just be careful not to contaminate anything.
