how awful, poor little Betta !!!
I went to Petsmart today. I love to look at their fish !!! Even if I'm not going to get any. :-D Their aquariums are soooo clean & nice !! They have their Bettas in tiny squares, maybe 3 in.x 3 in. up in a row above all the other aquariums. I was looking at them, wanting to get a nice one for my new 10 gl. I find a square with a real pretty blue one and in the same little square, another blue fella that was dead !! I was HORRIFIED !! I ran and told one of the employees, who then fished the poor thing out. How could someone make a mistake like that, and put two together ?? SOOO SAD !!!:-( :sob:
sometimes dumb people just dump them together because its "funny."
Just like DJ said it prolly wasnt a mistake with the fish just a mistake with the moron workin in a petstore when they should be in a ward somewhere with padded walls  . I dont and never will understand why people like those even work at petstores ? I mean you would think that a person would love or at the very least like animals to go apply at a store that sells them for a job .
You can tell alot about someone just by how they are with animals ...
I agree. sometimes its kids too who do that. sadly if you look at the betta forum, lots of people have posted stories of finding bettas in that situation at stores.
The Walmart in my town used to sell Betta fish, in those itty bitty cups. They stopped selling them after people started to take the cups and stick them (with the fish) in the freezers.
I don't understand people, that stuff just makes me sick.
I can totally sympathize with the wal-mart doesnt need to sell fish club .
I have had fish of one kind or another for as long as I can remember but never betta fish , just didnt like the idea of havin to keep them all alone i didnt really understand them . And recently me and my son '' River Logun 5 yr old '' went to wal-mart and ended up leaving with bettas 8 to be exact cause he had a stone cold fit when he saw the dead ones ( like 6-7 )
and how dirty the water was in the rest . All have passed but one and he is doin great in his very own 10 gal. the others were just to far gone  we tried to bring the back to health ....I think their should be a law that a department store cant sell animals . And petstores should have to have some sort of level of experiance requirments for employees as a law !!
OKay I'm calm now
Like the one survivor, such a shame about all the others.
We dont have a walmart here, but their European subsidiary - ASDA - thankfully, along with all others of the same kind of nature, dont, and i dont think ever have sold fish or any pets.
Saying though, some of the lfs's are just as bad.....especially on info as this came up again yesterday- ''oh yes sir, 5 balas and 4 clown loaches in a 20 gallon tank, they will be super happy.''
The next time someone tells me that, i think id most likely leave them on the floor (flash volcano temper :-) )as its just as bad in my mind- its a slow torture.
Petco here sells the Betta in the little cups. Makes me sick every time I see them. I have witnessed kids picking them up and shaking them vigorously and laughing. I have seen cups with chunks of crap in there and a half dead fish... another one os some sick individuals "fun" It is those cups that tug on my heartstrings and makes me want to rescue one. I keep thinking I have a 25 gallon tank that is mostly empty but I hate to dedicate that tank to only one fish. Some people are so cruel it is sickening to think they are walking around with decent people.
That 25 gallon would hold a good number of dividers. Just sayin ;-)
I know it may not be much but me and my lil boy have restrained our rescue efforts to comfort missions now as a result of our first attempt and heart break for the kids . Now we have aggreed to just get one or 2 we pick the worst ones that are prolly gonna pass on and we bring them home .. We put them in a 10 gal divided clean water good food and medication ( if needed ) and just try to make them as comfortable as can be so they dont spend there whole life in a cup of $#%& . If one does make it and fully recover its awsome :-D if not then ...well atleast it had some love ...God didnt make any animal with the intintion of it living in a plastic cup of its own fecal matter eveything on this world deserves a lil bit of compasion , no matter what its temperment or what have you .
This being said when a lil guy does recover he will be posted on this site as a adoption in hopes that someone with a true love for the lil guy will offer him a home and open another spot for the save a betta effort by my son and daughter :-) against the wal-mart's of the world .
I know this will not make a diffrence in the big picture but in our lil world it makes a huge one . And as a father of 2 human children and god knows how many fishes ( no idea with the fry numbers lol ) I am very proud of the effort and concern shown by my babbies to try , just to try does make a diffrence . God bless us all an may he guide us all to a lil change a lil compassion and a lil love for each other and the animals we come into contact with through out ouur days .
