New to Aquariums
So I've always loved and admired fish and aquariums but never had anything more than a bowl with a goldfish. However I got married in Sept and got settled into our apartment after and I was anxious to get a tank. For Christmas my wife surprised me with a very small (3 gallon cube) and I was so excited! Right now I have a few live plants and a couple neon tetras in there and they are doing great!
Now, I happened to get a larger 10 gallon tank for a few bucks for my office at work and I'm going to slowly start to cycle this tank as well! All I have right now for the 10 gallon tank is the glass tank itself. I will have to get a filter then some substrate and plants to begin with then I'll see what fish I would like to keep it in.
I'm looking forward to learning lots here and eventually growing into much larger tanks!
Sounds like your hooked.
Someones gt a case of MTS!(multiple tank syndrome) Welcome to the forums and believe me once you get further into the hobby youl avemore aquariums and they will just get bigger each ime!!
Hey Rob, Welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping!!
Hey Rob ,
Welcome to the site !! You are in a great place to learn and further you addiction to aquatics lol .
You said you gotta get sub and everything for your 10 gal , Just thought I'd give you an idea with that . You can use plain ole dirt from the yard and top it off with small gravel or sand from any location that has some of either that you like the looks of , just a thought ;-) its what I do and live plants do real good in the dirt under sub . ( save ya a few bucks as well ) just make sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that there isnt any ferts or pesti used one the dirt you get if you do decide to do this . Any chemicals in the dirt will not be good in your tank .
With that said , I think you'll really like this site . Lots of really nice people with lots of experiance to that like to teach and share secrets . Great place all around .
Hello and welcome to the forum
Charlie, thanks for the suggestion I will have to try that out next time as I didn't see your post until after I had my blue sand down and filled the tank haha.
I got a Tetra HT10 heater today (I figured I didn't need a lot of heating power as my office is always at a reasonable temperature) and an Aqueon Quietflow 10. I may get some tetras from petsmart to stick in there as they are only $1.00 right now and they are hardy enough to get my tank cycling. I will leave the filter and heater on to make sure everything equalizes out. Hopefully I can get some plants to grow in this blue sand (at least get some lava moss to start). At home I have a few neon tetras and a few ghost shrimp. I'll probably be moving half of the ghost shrimp here to the office.
The addiction has started and its going to continually grow thanks to this forum :)
hello and good by to your wallet, hope you'll be very happy here. :-D
