New To Cichlids

Hello,

I am new to the cichlid lifestyle and I am excited to get my new fish. I am taking the most time that I can within a reasonable time frame to get my new tank set up properly. I just picked up my 37 gallon tank for christmas on friday and I have it set up. I only need to add the cichlids but I am not going to do that until I add the starter fish so I can get the bacteria and nitrogen cycle running properly. Right now I have the water at about 78 degrees and the pH level is between 7.0 and 7.5 (without any live fish in the tank). I want to know what starter fish I should get before I get my cichlids. I have a 10 gallon tank that currently is the home to a golden severum (I think that is the name of it) and an angel fish. Dont worry I will get a bigger tank for them soon. I want to get starter fish that will work well in the cichlid tank and will be alright to put into my 10 gallon tank with my severum and my angel fish. Also what would be a good bottom feeder or algae eater for my 37 gallon tank as well. I know this is a long post but I would like to get some input for my new tank so it can look beautiful!!

You do know thatthe servum and the angel fish are ciclids right...central american to be excact.just put them in the new tank also that 37 gallon tank is still to small to house just about any adult ciclid including those 2 from above.

I know they are cichlids but I am going to be getting african cichlids for my 37 gallon tank. I will be getting a bigger tank for the severum and the angel fish but they are still very small. I should be getting a bigger tank for them within the next month or so.

Ok thanks for the details that shoyld have been in the first post..well on that note, africans require a 8.0 to 9.0 ph range so start there.adult africans need a special african salt to be extreamly colorfull.kinda like brackish water just with different salts.they also need a good male to female ratio.like 1 male to 5females or more.also have to be crowded.so in that 37 gallon you can only have 1 species of african fish.
