Pics of my new freshwater 150g tank with 15g sump
I posted last week for suggestions on cycling my new 150g tank.
I started with the fish food method which took too long according my liking. Then I used the suggestions that were made on this forum
- Added filter media in the sump from my old tank.
- Added gravel from my old tank in the main tank and in the sump.
- Added live plants in the main tank.
And WOW, it works great. Parameters are not perfect yet but was acceptable to add fish already.
Water clarity is also not perfect yet, but will get there soon. I have also added some artificial plants as the live plants dont last very long with my Oscars.
And no, I'm not a professional photographer but I tried my best.
Here is my fish family
- 3 x Tiger Oscars
- 1 x Longfin Tiger Oscar (I saved it from a LFS where it was kept a small 10g tank)
- 2 x Deacons (Severums) - Hope its a male/female (Bought seperately from different LFS)
- 1 x Longfin Pleco
- 1 x Silwer Arowana
Decorations already messed up by my Oscar family
Not a good quality picture but an interesting one. My arowana dont want to pose for a photo.
Awesome tank! Thanks for sharing.
I will have to go on a photography course to get better pics of my Arowana
Any advice on what plants to use with Oscars, they seem to destroy all my live plants for the fun of it
I am curious, are you aware that the Arowana will outgrow that tank?
As for plants to use with Oscars, you need something they may not like the taste of. I suggest trying Java Ferns. Also if you can locate Anubias Frazeri, the leaves are large, broad, and fairly tough. That may withstand the beating your Oscars will try to give it.
I am aware, he is currently about 30cm, eventually he will outgrow the tank, but I've had him for nearly two year now and he has become like a pet. Its gonna be difficult the day he has to go.
Hopefully it will take another few years, but I will either donate him to the National Aquarium zoo or my local LFS who have big display tanks.
Love your Red Severums. If I were to take a gander I'd say they were both male due to the squiggles on their face.
I don't think any live plants will survive your Oscars or Severums. I have Anubias in with my Severums and also in another tank with my Synspillum and in both tanks the fish have chewed off all the leaves. If you want a bit of greenery in your tank you'll probably have to stick with silk or plastic. Even then your Oscars will rearrange them. Lol
Tx. I've never included the dimensions of the tank. The dimensions is as follow
- Length - 1,6 meter (about 60 inch
- Heigth -70cm(28 inch) Note that my water level is at 65 cm (26inch)
- Width - 60 cm (23 inch)
I previously said it has a 15g sump. But the sump is actually bigger but I only keep 15g of water in there according my max and min levels.
The total height of the aquarium including the cabinet is about 1.6 meter which mean is nearly as high as it is long.
On the picture it does not look like it, I will take some pics of my neighbours wife next to it, on second thoughts, I should rather just take a pic of my wife next to it. That way I'll be allowed to keep it for longer.:-D
And I was informed that this was my last upgrade, I can only upgrade again if buy her a bigger house.
