hello there! me an my 50g! with pics!!
 

ive had an aquarium for about 2 yrs now. i upgraded from my 25gallon i got from a buddy stocked for free to a 50 gallon i found at a garage sale for 40 bucks! :-D ive been slowly turning it into something id really enjoy! Welcome to TFK!! We're glad you joined us!! Thank You for sharing pics of your fish and tank. Looking great! I know not everyone is open to live plants but a few floating on the surface will give your fish a sense of cover overhead. And they take up ammonia in the process. Buying just one.... they will multiply on their own providing more! Plastic doesn't multiply on it own. :lol:

what kinda of floating plants would you recommend? im open to getting some nice looking real plants. i had some tall grass in my old tank but they kept getting unrooted by the pleco. thanks everyone! i hope to learn alot here! 8-)

Live plants are surprisingly easy. I just started keeping them a few months ago, now I am in the process of switching all my tanks over. There are many low light plants that do not require special lighting. I just use liquid fertilizer (Flourish comp) twice a week when I remember (which reminds me...) and fert tabs in the substrate, which last a few months.

Wisteria if you can get it... Duckweed is quite messy but works too. You can even float Anacuras or Cabomba on the surface if nothing else... they are stem plants that are usually planted. If you get a bunch and actually plant them, they will grow to the surface of your tank and then you cut off a length and plant those pieces in a new bunch. You can do that with any of the stem plants. I always have stems of diff plants floating on the surface of my tanks. Many members like to do that as it provides cover.
If you decide to plant your plants in the substrate you need to consider your Lights/bulbs and then fertilizer too.

awesome! thanks. i was reading about duckweed and how it grows so fast. ive been searching online alot an trying to figure out what i want to do for my redecorating thats going to go down on sunday. so low light plants are easy to care for? just some fertilizer and there good to go eh? ill have to look into this some more. i dont mind the fake plants but real nice greens would be nice

I had Duckweed and got so mad at it, it gets onto everything!! But now that it is all gone finally, I need it back... it's Goldfish and Turtle candy apparently!! Floating plants are hard to find sometimes.
