Sexing Baloon Mollies
I bought 2 what I believe to be orange Baloon Mollies. Fat little pudgy fish. Creamsicle coloured. Cannot see any sign of a gonopodium or round tailfin or an anal fin at all. Can I tell the sex of these fish? Both are pudgy. One is especially fat. Stuck them in my interim tank with 3 danios and 1 black skirted Tetra.

Without being to see a gonopodium or identify on the anal fin I have no clue. Live bearers should all have the fin. If you ca not see the fin at all then I would say that they are in bad shape from the LFS. Maybe in a week or two it will grow back and you will be able to sex them properly.

Problem is gone. Both Mollies died within 8 hours of being in my tank. LFS blamed everyone but themselves and refused warranty. They told me no warranty on sale fish (I didn't even know they were on sale. My guess sick fish=sale fish). I asked how about dead fish do you warranty dead fish?
No more doing business at Paulmacs. Farther down the road is a real fish store. Private no chain store. Thanks for the info. I replaced them with 2 Sailfin mollies. Very healthy, one very male and one very female. Thanks again

Sorry to hear that, especially about the LFS. Sometimes it is hard to deal with them. Thankfully my LFS doesn't care if it was sale fish or not. They at least give you a chance to get healthy ones.
