Fish for my 20g & 55g
Hello i have a 20 that will be empty in a couple days once i get rid of my mature piranha. I know i want some neon tetras like 10 or so im looking for some other small to med size colorful fish that will school together. Looking for some opinions from you guys. Tank is not planted might do it in the future but not in the next couple of months.
Second is my 55 with is being cycled as we speak on its second week. Im making this a piranha tank i will be buying some babies from my lfs my question is how many can i support i have a 250w ebo and a 400 emperor on it. If ya do the 1 inch rule you figure say 7inchs big which woulnt happen for atleast a year. so that would be like 6 or 7 of these guys would that work i think i would like 5-6 would there be any problems with that...
i dont know that much about piranahs but if you go with the 1 in rule that should be ok but again you may want someone else's opinion.
for small-medium schooling fish you could get some cories or kuhli loaches for the bottom. they are so fun to watch in a group.
some middle-upper level fish could be.... penguinfish, RUMMYNOSES, white clouds, glasscatfish, emperor tetras, hatchet fish, cardinal tetras(although if you have neons you might not want fish that look so similar), danios, black skirt tetras, HARLEQUIN RASBORAS, rosy tetras, celebes rainbowfish, or COLUMBIAN TETRAS.
i say this a lot- but i am a huge fan of harlequinn rasboras. they school pretty well, they are colorful (especially if you mix in some of the black-purple looking ones), they are very peacful and easy to keep. they get along with all other types of fish and they are active. i have 6 and i have never seen so few fish school so tightly. they are a pretty neat little fish.
just so there is no confusion i was suggesting the harlequinns for the empty 20 gallon - not in the same tank as the piranhas
i think harlequins are pretty cool too. and yeah..... i dont think they would mix well with the piranahs.
