My cat fish was caught in filter, what to do?!
Im new to this forum, ive been reading discussions for a few months now and finally joined.
I have a problem and dont know what to do.
I have a 20g fresh water tank and last night i noticed that one of my little cory catfish (about 2" long right now) was caught in the filter suction tube  with its side fin. Ive seen this happen before with other fish but they just swim away. This time, i dont know how long he was stuck there for. I immediately turned the pump off and he was able to swim away, however, this morning he has barely any activity and of course wont eat.
So my question is... what can i do to try to help him, unless its too late cuz he has internal damage. And for the future, what can i do to try to prevent it.
I had a 20 power filter that came with the kit from Petco, and the suctioning tube seems to have openings which are too wide for my small fish. I was thinking about wrapping it with some really fine net of some sort... any help would be appreciated!
When I had my betta get caught in the filter screen I simply got him loose and he did just fine. I actually think he could have pulled away if he wanted to but I wanted to make sure he wasn't stuck to it.
Watch the cory for any signs of damaged fins or color fading. If you see anyhting, add someting like melafix or other fin rot remedy to try and help it heal.
