Where I am placing the tank in the family room I think that the filter would be best hanging off the end of the tank rather than the back. This is only a space consideration.
Are there any issues that come up setting it up that way?
I'm going to put a glass top on, I would obviously have to come up with a way of covering the tank... Maybe just go with a shorter cover and put a cross brace at the end, it doesn't matter.
25 gal 24 x 12 top. I'm sure the aquaclear 30 will fit, I don't have it to measure and I don't think that the online docs give dimensions.
It will be planted, anticipating lots if plants and schooling fish. Not exactly sure which fish yet though but I don't think that a little less end to end circulation will be a concern... or am I incorrect or does it really matter which fish we end up with.
Personally, I wouldn't want it so close to the wall that a filter wouldn't fit. That could get in the way during maintenance. Otherwise, I don't suppose it would cause a problem for the fish or plants.
I would have three sided access at about counter height. Not too worried about maintenance access, good thought though.
Filter flow does affect fish, so yes, that matters. Some fish must have a current, some fish cannot tolerate any, some are in the middle.
I only have canisters and sponge filters now, but back when I had HOB I found them better on the back simply because they were out of sight and out of the way. The only fish-related concern would be the flow direction; if aimed down the tank it will be stronger than if aimed into the nearest wall.
On the end puts it more out of sight as well. I suppose I can just put it in both positions and see what it does if the main concern is having a current or not.
I wanted to hang my Aquaclear from the end of the tank for pleco's,loaches, but light fixture rest's on each end, and Aquaclear110 was too wide at thirteen inches to allow the light to sit in front of ,or back of the light.
