Cory's & Discus
Hi, I've wanted to get a group of cory's for my discus tank. Only problem is I keep my tank around 84f and all of the cory's in my LFS (PetSmart/Co) top out at 72f. Cory's available are Albino, Emerald Green, etc.. I wanted ones that stay small and I will get a larger group of them (10?). Suggestions?

72 is definitely on the cold end for a cory. I would believe 82 as a top but you may want to look at each variety again just to be sure what each one's top temperature is.

I keep lots of corydoras in tanks that range from about 74 to 80. They are all thriving. I have peppered corys, trilineatus, cochui corydoras (which are a dwarf type) and a couple of bronzes. I do not have any greens so I can't say about them but lots of corydorus do great in warmer water.

I would stay away from corydoras paletus (peppered cories) as they tend to prefer slightly cooler temperatures than the other cories. I think if you lowered the temp in your tank by 2 degrees for example (assuming this would be Ok for the discus? I think it would but wouldn't like to say 100&) then you shouldn't have any problems keeping most of the cory species.

Emerald green is Bronchis splendens and are definitely not cories, but bronchis. These are large growing to 3-4 inches, Jm so you may not want these. Why not just find Corydoras sterbai? These are one of the few that can tolerate 80 degrees and above. If the temp must be lowered to 82 degrees, it is fine for adult discus, but not juvenile. I must warn you however that the discus will become more vulnerable to diseases the lower the temperature.
