Quarantine Tank?

What is the best way to keep a quarantine tank? Do you run the tank continuously or do you just keep an additional filter in your main tank to move over to the quarantine tank for use when you need it?

I needed a quarantine tank last night and luckily had a extra sponge filter running in the 55 gallon tank so I just set up a 10 gallon tank quickly. Does anyone keep a quarantine tank filled and filtered or do you just bring it out as needed? I know if you keep it filled you would have to feed the bacteria somehow so I wonder what everyone else does.

I do precisely as you did .
I drain enough water from main tank for 50 % of quarantine, then fill the rest of the way with fresh dechlorinated water and move mature sponge filter, or HOB filter, from main tank to the quarantine.
I have in the past kept quarantine tank's running with a few snail's, and every other day addition of fish food + weekly water change.

Same here, always keep a few extra sponge filters running in established tanks just in case. As far as our QT tank, when it is not in use I shut it down and clean it thoroughly. Do not want to introduce any disease to a host that is in the tank just to keep it running.
