Plants Native to Malaysia/Thailand?
Can anyone name off a few, having a hard time finding a list mostly I just see Crypts.
I'm looking to do a biotype tank for a Betta, 5.5g, so I need some foreground and midground plants. Traditional background plants likely would get too large for this size of a tank.
I do want a crypt or two as the main plants, but wanted some options for either a stem plant or maybe a foreground plant that could managed under a 10W CFL. The height of the tank is 10", outside dimension. So all in all probably 2" less than that in reality.
Check the profiles? Some of the plants are listed as native to Malaysia, some to SE Asia which could include Malaysia.
Aponogeton undulatus, Ceratopteris cornuta, and the Hygrophila species come to mind.
Yeah, I was reading through some but they mostly just say "Asia" and I wasn't sure if there was anything more specific.
I want to stick with 2, maybe 3 species is all. Don't want a jumble like I've ended up in my other tanks. I've seen Hygrophila mentioned a few places so I might give that a try along with a crypt. 10" (more like 8" in reality) isn't much room to work with! I already have Wisteria, and I think I can get a Cryptocoryne wendtii locally. Water Sprite is a bit too large I think for this size tank. It gets absolutly enormous in my 125g.
Vallisneria is native, but unfortunately it's vallisneria..
I've seen some reports that java fern can be found there. Narrow leaf java fern is lovely in small tanks.
If you don't mind a tank that just *looks* thai, then treat dwarf sag as a "mini-vallisneria". (it is native to asia, just don't know if it's from thailand)
According to Wikipedia Rotala rotundifolia occurs in Thailand. You might be able to find it locally and it should do well with the light.
