BABY MOLLIES: OLD ENOUGH YET TO PUT FAMILY TOGETHER?

Ever since the mother balloon molly had babies (5 only made it) I removed the male from the tank because I think he was eating them. It's been a week now and they seem to be really fast and can avoid the mother easily; is it safe to put the male back in yet?

Hard to say for sure. I could say yes, and the fry would be gone tomorrow. But you never know until you try. If you decide to do so, I would add plants like najas, java moss, elodea, Christmas or Taiwan moss to provide some cover for the juvies. Always a good idea anyway as thes e plants provide cover for the smaller fish, provide a sense of security for all, can be food for some, and will provide a littlle variety in the tank.

It is hard to say, but I would take an educated guess that they're probably big enough now to avoid being eaten but like was mentioned, I can't say for sure. The plants certainly will help.

I find it odd that the mother did not eat the babies. It's very unusual for a single fish to eat them as mother livebearers are notorious for eating their babies.

crossbreeding molly???

Hi! aquarium has been one of my interest ever since but it was just about 3 months when i decided to put up my own aquarium. i have some gold fish, pink zebra danio, some corydora catfish and about 9 mollies.

i am interested breeding mollies and i just want to ask if it is possible for different molly species to cross breed, i.e. sailfin mollie with dalmatian mollies, or balloon mollies with other types?

i hope you guys can enlighten me with this.

thanks in advance! :D

i don't know anything about fish breeding really which is why i posted this but from what i've read you can cross bread mollies. But for my orignal question; I have a few fake plants, 2 fake things of grass and a little castle to hide in, should that be enough? also I could add in some rocks.
