How to set up a seperate tank for molly fry
I recently sold two Oscars that got too big for my tank (30 gallon and first fish...didn't know what I was getting myself into) and converted to mollies and guppies. I am new to the live bearers and I am now overwhelmed with five guppy and 24 molly fry (had no idea mollies had so many fry at once). They are currently in a small floating nursery in my main tank but I wanted to set up a fry tank because its getting crowded in the nursery and another molly looks pregnant. Just not sure what the best way to do it would be...the plan was to get a 1 or 2.5 gallon and fill it with water from the main tank and add a plant so they could have some algae to feed on. Any advice or warnings on what I am doing would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :-)

my 2 cents worth. leave them in the main tank and provide hiding places. they say a shower scrubbie works. I have a couple of hands full of Anacharis in my 120 gal. they stay hidden until they are too big to eat.

I guess it depends on weather you want to get into the whole breeding thing. If you set up a tank for the fry , you will in time need to rehome them before they ( the fry) start breeding. If you leave them in your present tank nature will take its corse and youll end up with a managable amount. If you decied to do the second tank, you can get a plastic nest at most pet shops....looks like fake plant that floats at the top, you can then scoop them out and into new tank. Good Luck! :-)
