stocking with a tinfoil
six months ago a friend of mine gave me a solitary tinfoil barb that outgrew her aquarium. as i have a much larger tank. but i have learned at some expense that it is an omnivore as all my guppies and neons quickly became lunch. i am wondering what community fish can i put with it.
The quick answer is, nothing smaller than the Tinfoil--and they get big. However, more importantly, this is a shoaling fish that should be in a group. There are two species under the common name, both are in our profiles. Barbonymus schwanenfeldii attains 14 inches and needs a 7-8 foot tank and a group as I said; Barbonymus altus only reaches 8 inches and needs a 5-6 foot tank for a group. Both will eat smaller fish. Click on the shaded names for the profile with photos and more detail.
