Quick Question. Can I put my fish in a rubermade tub?

Tomorrow, I want to take all my fish outta my 45 gallon tank so I can take some things out and add more rock and a bunch of other things. Can I put all my fish in a rubermade tub or does the plastic give off toxic chemicals. I can't do anything in the tank because the big fish just get in the way and I don't want to smush the little fish. Thanks

well i wouldnt do it for too long but it will work for a while. you would of course want to rinse it thourghly before putting the fish in it. the only thing you might want to do is when you put the fish in it put the heater in it too.

i know this will work because i had to do this one time when my tank broke and i went to get another. i put all my fish in a clear plastic tub with the heater and when my new tank arrived (which was within a few hours because i went to the store and bought one right away) i put the fish back in and they were fine.

i think the rubbermaid tub is fine- i've used tubs like that to medicate or do salt baths- however, i would be more concerned about stressing them out moving them back and forth. they can't stay in the tub for long without filtration, and aeration.

How much time do you think I will have?

I've taken fish to conventions driving 6 hours and spending another 2 hours settingup tanks. I used heavy doses of StressCoat to help the fish maintain their slime coat. I double dose plus on extra squirt for good measure. Put the lid on just to keep things dark, isolate the fish from all of the commotion, and keep them in the container. Use water from the tank.

if they are in there for too long you could always just add some more water or change the water a few times.
