Lost Spotted Raphael Catfish
I bought a fairly large spotted Raphael Catfish last Friday. I bought 2 striped ones at the same time (see avatar).
We have moved all the ornaments around since then and cannot find him. I rooted around in the substrate too. Searched around the outside of the tank (though it is sealed pretty tight). Even went through the garbage to make sure he made it out of the bag. (I knew he did, he was huge and I KNOW he made it into the tank)
But I am totally perplexed. I have looked under and in ornaments, lifted them right out of the water.
I guess I should name him Houdini, though it seems pointless to name him at this point.
The striped raphaels never come out, but I know which ornament they are in, and I can see them through the holes. I lifted it up and looked in the bottom, and the spotted one is not in there with them.
They're a fair size. I am at a loss as to how he could have completely vanished.
It's only a 55 so there are only so many places he could be.
Hate to suggest it, but do you have a dog or cat?
Also, many catfish can get pretty far from water, have you checked under the couch, etc?
The tank is in the dining room. I just checked after reading your message and he is not under the table.
This tank is sealed so well. I bought it used and all the tabs were out of the back, so I cut plastic to cover all the holes and taped it down. The hoods are literally attached to the tank.
Maybe he's in the filter? I meant to check earlier.
Nope just checked. That would have been something.
It wouldn't be so weird, except this guy is big.
Mental image of Catfish using pectorals and tail to wedge himself into corner of lid in order to hide from evil owner.
Well I hope that in a day or two you're walking by the tank and he's just cruising around like it's no big deal.
