Question: Baby balloon mollies
My baby balloon mollies, who are almost 2 months old now are still "platy shaped." Is this normal? They do not have balloon bellies. Do the bellies develop later, or will they stay slim?

Congratulations on the little ones, Rocky!!! The offspring of Balloons don't always ballon, so they may just be normal Mollies - aka Platy shaped, more or less. The balloon shape isn't natural, though it is bred in, so it isn't always passed on to the next generation. Sounds like you have perfectly healthy, normal, baby Mollies!

Well, I'll be darned! I figured if their mom and dad were both balloons (I saw only balloon males in the tank) that the babies would be too! But then, I know that in dogs you can get "throwbacks" so maybe that's what's happened here. Thanks, Chesh! It doesn't matter to me, as long as they're healthy, but I would have preferred balloons.
