- - Borneo pleco? (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/catfish/borneo-pleco-12096/)
I was at Petco today(not the dismal local one) and I saw a pleco labeled as Borneo pleco. I can't seem to find anything about these online, so I'm guessing this is not the rightful name of whatever pleco it is. Has anyone heard of these? Maybe a not so common alternative name? I realize if they are mislabeled, then it would be awfully hard to know what it is, but I thought I'd give it a shot. They were only $6.95, so if I figured it was a species that stays smaller, I could go back tomorrow and get one in place of my common pleco. I couldn't see them very well, but the one out in the open looked much paler than a common, a sign of stress, perhaps. The only other one in the tank was hidden in a rock cave, so I couldn't get much off of that. I forgot to ask the sales person if she knew anything about them. Anyone know anything of this Borneo pleco?
Re: Borneo pleco?
You're referring to the hillstream loaches which are coldwater species and will do better when kept in river specialist tanks. I've done that before. There are over thirty species of hillstream loaches sharing the stupid names because of their appearance similar to plecos.
Sorry, I don't have any photos. I'll try to get some when I get back there today. And they definitely weren't hillstream loaches. I would have recognized them right away, they were plecos for sure.
