What kind of snail is this?
Well, I had two little odd looking snails ride in on a plant about a month ago, this one grew pretty good in that time, they were very tiny when I found them. Still not very big I suppose.
Anywho, I have no idea what they are, they both look the same, although one has disappeared so I can't get a pic of them both at once. But they do look identical though. lol If they are pond snails, they will be removed, but I'd like to keep them since they're so neat. =) I suppose I may as well anyways. ^^; lol They also move pretty fast for snails if that helps any. I didn't think they were pond snails though, they don't really look like the ones I've seen.
That is a neat looking snail. I've never seen one like it. Wouldn't it be great if it turned out to be a rare exotic ?
Some variety of Zebra Nerite Snail perhaps?
I considered the Zebra Nerite Snail because of the stripes, but I can't find any that look like this one. ^^; Doesn't mean he's not though! That's a good guess, and being a striped snail, very probable.
As for rare snails popping in, I don't mind that so long as they wont harm my fish or plants, or anything else important in the tank. lol When I got my first plant, I got a dark purple apple snail with it. I also got two pond snaills unfortunately, and within two months I had several hundred and couldn't keep up trying to get rid of them. I finally did. x.x My apple snail gave me several funny colored kids though, some like it, a blue one that unfortunately didn't survive and a bunch of white ones. Unfortunately an accident left her out of the water and she died. T_T As for her kids, I don't think I have any left, my loaches had at them. I had a white one in my platy tank for a while, but recently it has vanished. I liked those snails, especially the first one. I was very bummed. =(
The loaches lov'em. Currently have a rams horn snail explosion. Thankfully, I have a clown loach that can't get enough of them. Unfortunately, they're in two different tanks.
If it breeds, send me some of the offspring and I might be able to ID them. No idea what they are from the pic.
Sure, I'll send you some. You'd have to tell me how to send them though, I've never sent out live animals before. lol If they end up being pond snails that are just odd looking, it'd be better to have a place just for them. lol Otherwise you might get a takeover. I haven't had a takeover yet myself though, even when I was removing eggs before when I had pond snails in my other tank, I still got over-run, so I don't think these are the same, they breed less.
It does breed, but I was worried about what kind of snails they are so I always remove the eggs. I'm not sure they woulda hatched anyways, I have those two in my breeder pen where I raise my youngest molly fry, they clean up the food that is too big for the babies to eat if I don't get it first. Speaking of twos, I found the other one. lol
