Anglefish mated successful. Now what?
Today angelfish laid an leaf full of eggs and now daddys is protecting them. I really didn't plan on breeding but would like to see a few grow up. What can I do to give them the best chance with minimal effort?
The silver blue one is dad and the black white, and orange one is mom. Who do you think the babies will look like?
To raise fry, you would have to have a dedicated tank for them. In a community tank, they'll likely never make it. Nature can always find a way but the odds are against it. If the angels feel threatened, which they will with other fish in the tank, they will eat all the eggs rather than let the others get them.
As you can see, there are lots and lots of eggs, a 40B sized tank is what you'd need to raise them. It takes several weeks before they get large enough to be of sell able size, so you need a tank large enough for that many babies.
Even on their own, tank bred angels will need a few attempts before they realize they shouldn't eat their own babies. Wild caught don't have this problem.
First of all, what a nice surprise. Geomancer has provided good info. The best way to have the eggs hatch and maybe a survivor or two is to do as little as possible to disturb the parents. What else is in the tank ?
5 black phantom, 3 silver hatchet, 1 diamond tetra ( I will get more after this egg this is done as to not stress the fish) 1 oto, and 1 columbian zebra pleco
You will want to get at least one more Black Phantom Tetra, three more Silver Hatchetfish, and five more Diamond Tetra to complete their schools.
The angels, now that they have formed a mated pair, will likely spawn about every 2 weeks now provided conditions remain favorable to them. No rest for the weary.
I want a school of 10 for all 3 of the schooling fish...hopefully that's not overstocked for a 75 gallon
I want to get 10 of each ofnthe schooling fish is my goal. Would that be too much with everything else in their?
New Anglefish eggs
Congratulations on the spawing just get set up and hopfully you will have fry our pair spawned we took the fry away and put them in the tank before they were free swimming and dipped the water from the tank they hatched in and are feeding microworms and brine shrimp
Good Luck ,Judy
That's probably fine, how many angels? I would not put 10 of those in. In fact, if you only have the two I'd stick with just them since you have a mated pair.
I missed that you had an oto catfish, those need to be in a school too.
