Pregnant Guppy Help (Video)
Hi guys I know there are a lot of questions about this and I have read most of the discussions about it. I am sorry for the repeat but I am still having trouble telling.

I bought a female guppy from the fish store and I know she is pregnant and I thought she would have given birth by now because she looked very pregnant when I got her, however she has not and I am moving in less then 48 hours, an 8h drive. I have figured out how to move my fish so they won't die however I am afraid that even if I move this guppy in her 1 gal birthing tank she might become to stressed and harm herself/her fry.

Would you guys look at this video of her: Pregnant Guppy - YouTube and tell me how long you think it will be until she gives birth and any suggestions on what to do...

Thank you

Hi Sharron. Welcome to TFK. Great video, thanks for providing this for us to view.
She certainly has a very dark gravid spot which is usually an indication that birth is imminent. She is pregnant for sure but I would have thought she would be bigger, deeper, more squared off at the front having a gravid spot so dark. But first drop may be less fry this time.
Fish often drop their fry in the early morning hours and often after a water change with a drop of about 2 degrees cooler.... like a cleansing rain in nature. Try a 50% water change tonight.... and peak into the tank without lights on tomorrow morning. Might have to try it a couple of days in a row. Gestation period is 21-30 days with an average of 28. Can you remember when you got her... how many days along she may be?

Thanks for the welcome :-)

I will try a water change. I got her about a week ago so I don't really know how far along she is. I wasn't planning on getting her originally with moving being so imminent, but I had been looking at starting to breed guppies and I found a fish store in my area I had not been to and went to check it out and they had a tank of guppies obviously all from 1 strain and had several features I was wanting. I really did think she would have already had her fry by now. I do think she is young, this may be only her 1st or 2nd drop.

I will keep you updated.

No fry this morning... If she does not give birth today or tonight I will have no choice but for her to travel pregnant...

Yes true... keep them covered with a towel/blanket, less to see, less stress. And don't feed them the night before the move... less poop in their water the day of the move. Good luck, let me know how everyone fared! (Have lots of moving tips if you need them.)
Safe journey!!

I have a styrofoam cooler everyone is traveling in and everyone is fasting today. The guppy and my betta are going to travel in their 1 gallon containers and I will drain half the water out. Everyone else will travel in their own little jars made from 2 liters. Pics:

I was worried that air supply would be a problem so I opted for a more open container then bags. If you have any other suggestions they would be welcome :-)

Exciting and stressful at the same time. A new start!!
Possibly a heater(ice) pack heated in among-st the container to keep some warmth in.
Generally I think the less fussing the better. I travel with mine in a bucket with saran wrap and a towel.

I am going to throw a couple hot hands that my sister has in the box. They are going in the back seat of my car so once I am driving the heat won't be an issue but I don't want them to freeze while I pack the rest of the seat. Fishsicles are not something I want.

Everyone survived the move and little miss guppy is still pregnant...

Ahhhh Yeah!! I was thinking of you all weekend. Wondering how the move went. I'm glad you made it safely. Let us know when she drops.
