aquabella...anybody tried this new treatment?
 

saw this in the pet store today while i was looking for a sweater for my little pot bellied pig (i know, i know, don't ask)...

is this a case of "if it sounds too good to be true....." (i mean the water treatment thing, not the wet noodle thing). :-D

Looking at the link and literature looks like it reduces phosphates to keep the water clear.

Sound like nothing that can't be done with plant life and much less cost and for more stability.

But that's just my .02

My girlfriend is looking to use it in our aquarium, we have been curing 150 lbs of live rock for about three weeks now and the nitrites are holding fast at 1 ppm and nitrates at 5 ppm. Since this says it is just the bacteria we are trying to culture, we figure this should be a boost to what is already there, and will cut the cycling time.

I'll write up what happens when we have results.

it didn't work for me. i called aquabella about getting a refund since they guarantee this stuff. the guy asked me if i still had the box (which i did) and then asked me to look at the expiration date. turns out that when i bought it, it was already 9 months past that date. duh! it never occurred to me to look at the expiration date. i got a refund from the store.

i'll be interested to hear your outcome if you use it.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. We are using a discount card for a chainstore that is due to expire, and it is quite possible they won't have rotated the stock. Something to watch out for.

funny thing is, when i looked at the box and told the guy that indeed, it was expired when i bought it, he said "let me guess, you got it at Pet Supplies Plus? i said yes. he told me they had been having a LOT of trouble with PSP not rotating their stock. taught me a valuable lesson!
