Red cabomba, Pygmy Chain sword, Wisteria & MORE!
I'm seeing some issues with the dwarf saggitaria some of the leaves are slowly turning yellow and its only been 3 days in the tank should I get potassium or wait a little longer?
Pygmy Chain sword and I forgot the name of the bigger one behind it.
Its so big It's at the surface already does this stuff flower?
Flourish Comprehensive (every week)
API liquid C02 (every day)
Everything is in the aquariums page on my profile :D
Be careful with the API CO2 Booster. Expect the Vallisneria to melt and die; this plant genus does not usually do well with liquid carbon supplements. Some others may do likewise. Also, you have to be careful not to overdose, as this stuff is highly toxic. It's only ingredient (apart from water) is glutaraldehyde, a disinfectant used in hospitals to disinfect because it kills bacteria; it is also an ingredient in embalming and anti-freeze. If it gets on your skin, it can irritate to varying degrees; fumes should never be inhaled. I personally won't use it. And with soil you should have a decent supply of natural CO2.
One comment on the fish mentioned in the log. I know you probably have the temp at 82F for the ram, but the Panda cory will not last long at this high a temperature. Check the profile.
My dwarf sag does very well with just soil, just give it time. Trim the yellow leaves if you want.
Did some reading on glutaraldehyde and I'm gonna keep using it since I have seen significant results, But still good to know.
I keep the temp at 80 but I'm planning on trading the harlequins, Balloon ram, Spotted Raphael catfish, and some corys back to my job at an aquarium shop for some more suitable fish for a dirted tank. Looking for some interesting schooling fish, We have 6 juvenile Galaxy Rasboras and I'm gonna order a real german ram or an electric blue ram.
D. Sag is doing amazing right now although its growing a little higher then I expected, I noticed some BlueGreen Algae near the Pygmy Chain swords so I immediately trimmed the dead leaves from it and the D. Sag aswell. The DHG I will also trade back to the store since I have no real use for it, My intention was for it to carpet but I realized it cant without sand.
The Red cabomba has started to flower underwater, Theres a pink flower that started to grow for a couple days and after that I haven't seen much activity but then again I'm not home much during the afternoon.
Myrios are doing exceptional, They grow about 2-3 inches daily except some of the ones I trimmed get a lot of fish waste stuck on them but otherwise it's growing INSANE.
I took these pictures at night I turned the light back on because I barely have time during the day.
Theres a wierd film growing on this wood when I first put it in it was all around the wood so I rinsed it in hot water after 1 week submerged and now its back. Is this anything I should worry about?
Yes, that is a fungus, and it may or may not be toxic. There are many species of fungus, and some are deadly. I speak from personal experience, having lost fish to a white fungus that appeared from some wood. This fungus is deep insided the wood, and to my knowledge there is no sure way of killing it all. Boiling does not. I personally wouldn't take the risk, unless you get a microbiologist to examine this fungus and tell you it is safe.
I called the store and it is rosewood he told me to just brush it off with a toothbrush it should be gone in two weeks. It's not harmful at all.
Of course, one benefit here is that you are using the API CO2 Booster which is glutaraldehyde and that kills bacteria and is used in hospitals for that purpose, as it is in embalming fluid. So if you overdose it, it may kill this fungus. Along with the fish of course...
He is experienced with it, I have seen the same wood used in their tanks.
