I somehow killed my baby Guppies
 My aunt gave me 15 teeny tiny guppies about 4 weeks ago. They were doin wonderfully in their little basket in my 29 gallon. I also had 4 plattys who were only about 2 weeks old in there with them. Anyway, I set up a 2.5 gallon, I used the same water outta my 29 gl. And put them all in there. I got a tiny heater that didnt have a thing on it to set the temp. and I just kept lookin at the temp. They were all doin great, swimmin around joyfully for the first day. I checked the temp and it somehow got up to about 83ish. I guess with the heater and the light bulb, it caused it to get that high. I found 3 babies struggling to swim, and 1 dead. So, I panicked and scooped all them up and put them back in the basket in the 29 gl. Over the night, I lost alot more.  Now, I have only 4 guppies and 1 platy left !! I am DEVASTATED !!!!! What went wrong ?
Awwwww... sorry to hear this. What are you feeding them? And what are your water params. in the 29 gallon (ph, nitrItes, nitrAtes, ammonia)?
Moving water from the 29 gal to the tiny 2.5 gal did little, for the bacteria we need to process waste from the fish,, is found on filter material ,substrate, and decor.
Without healthy biological filter in the 2.5 gal, and addition of twenty small fish, Fish food,Is entriely possible that fishes succumed to ammonia and or nitrite poisoning.
Without healthy biological filter on an aquarium,,water changes may need to be each day depending on number's of fish ,size of tank.
Two and a half gallon tank is not suitable for fishes in my view but some tiny shrimp's could work in such a tank assuming it has healthy biological filter and or lot's of live plant's.
These small tank's are difficult to maintain stable temp's and water parameter's.
