Thanks....idiot at pet store told me it was a banjo! I didn't know anything about it until i googled the banjo and saw it isn't what i got...How big do these usually get?
The photo is on its side, so the fish is actually hanging vertically on the tank wall.
It is not a Banjo, no doubt of that. It might be a Synodontis species. I don't have time at the moment, have to head off; but if you check Planet Catfish, they have hundreds of photos.
It is a Synodontis catfish. The semi oval, fleshy fin (adipose fin) between the dorsal and caudal fin is an extremly comon characteristic to the Family of fish that contains the genus Synodontis; I dont know of a Synodontis with out the fin looking like this. I would say that this is a Synodontis euptera but could very well be a hybrid as they are very common. Most of the Syno's available at Petsmart or chain fish stores in the states that I have seen are hybrids.
That is definitely a synodontis, and I would agree that it looks like euptera (aka, featherfin synodontis).
