I have a terrible mix of cichlids, they don't fight too much....until today..
I decided I should spice their diet up! I got some blood worms and happily put some in the tank. They were unsure but the severum and dempsey tried them first. The dempsey then ate them all, and mauled anything that neared the top of the tank. O_O
He's extremely crazy mean now. Everytime I feed, whether it's granules or blood worms, will he cause a problem?
There is a reason they call that fish a Jack Dempsey.

JD's are very over estimated as far as aggression IMO. ya, it is a tougher fish then the severum, and will beat it up, but when they gave it the name Jack Dempsey, they were unaware of how aggressive other cichlids out their were, like midas, Trimac, Managuense etc. im not saying they cant live up to their name, but not all of them do, anyway, back to your question.
their is a likely chance he will cause problems, cuz all he is goin to get is worse.
i would recommend you get rid of one of them.
I will hopefully get a new tank soon. (55 - 190....somewhere in there.) and hopefully they can control themselves until they get larger, at that point I'ma sell them and get something but this time with more education of what to pair up. If they get too aggressive i'll certainly have to get rid of one...probably the severum, the JD has so much personality! :)
(why can't I edit my previous...I feel like i'm being a bad person and double posting!)
Tomorrow I should have my 75 gallon. I'm getting a filter, 75g tank, stand, hood, lights, powerhead, etc for 100 or under! Yay for having connections! I can't wait!
