my severum isn't eating!!!
are severums picky eaters beacuse my turquoise severum isn't eating. he attacks his pellets and and spits it back out. he does the same for his flakes. is this because my black convict is more aggresive? i have noticed my convict has been chasing my severum. now my severum is just standing there. what should i do? should a return the convict and get another severum? i liked severum better anyway.
My black convict is a female btw.
It is very possible that your severum has gone into fright/flight mode. The convict is a much more agressive fish. I would nix the convict, they are a neat fish, but very common and rather aggressive. Try feeding a live food such as brine shrimp. Frozen would do well. Blood worms, black worms, or tubifex worms would also do well. feeding frozen or freeze-dried would also suffice. Do not make this a regular, everyday habit. These fish need a well balanced diet. Flake or a balanced pellet food should be the staple diet. But, I would defintitely isolate, move, or get rid of the convict.
try a prawn soaked on garlic extract. if garlic extract is not to hand, just crush a garlic clove and coat the prawns in the oil.
be aware the oil will leave a residue on the surface, so skimming the tank with a paper towel should get that up ( the ones with thirst pockets is best)
