Cutting Italian Val.
So I've researched this but have found conflicting information. The Italian val. in my tank has gone from one side to the other in my 40g. It's really restricted the water flow across the top so I want to trim it some. Can I cut it like grass and it will just stretch back out eventually? I don't want to cut the tops of all of them and have the plant die off completely. Any help with this would be great thanks.
I have Giant Vals in my 75 gal, they must be over 5 feet long as the tank is 20" tall and 48 long... it's 4 inches from the other end.
I just break it off by hand any place I see being chewed by snails. The chewed gaps start to make that frond die off. So easily I can tear off several inches and it just keeps coming back.
I have also seen people take scissors and cut it all off level with the top of the tank and it will work it's way across again. This has a more drastic look for a few days/weeks while it grows back.
I Have leopard val, and use SHARP scissor's and cut the length off at 45 degree angle.
Dull scissor's, or breaking it off ,for me... result's in browning at the site cut/broken,and much slower regrowth.
