Just set up this tank earlier this week for dwarf puffers. Did a fishless cycle for the first time.
Cut the foam from an established Aquaclear 70 to fit the Aquaclear 20 on this tank. Put the rest of the sponge in the bottom of the tank. Added a nylon full of substrate from an established tank, and used water from an established tank. Some people say this doesn't help, but it can't hurt.
Also used bacteria in a bottle.
Tried feeding the dwarf puffers for the first time. One of them ate a bunch! I don't think the others ate any. Hopefully tomorrow.
I had to edit out half of the video where he's eating because my 4 year old is prancing around naked on the other side of the tank, which we didn't notice until we watched it afterwards.
The little punk had clothes on five minutes earlier!!
One if them has been winking at us! Lol.
They are adorable. How much more are they going to be growing?
Btw Canadian very nice tank and puffers! Have they all eaten for you yet?
Yep! I feed 'em blood worms every other day. The first time, one ate, the second time two did, and the third time all three ate like pigs. Two of them grabbed the same blood worm and we locked lip to lip in a tug of war for 10 to 15 seconds with me yelling for my wife to come see.
They still haven't used any of the hiding spots I put for them.
Oh also none of mine wouldnt actually hide even though they say you need hiding places. I think the main thing is to have lots of stuff in the tank so they can explore as they are very curious plus this works at breaking the line of sight. That helps with any aggression also.
Ah, kids. Gotta lov'em. That sounds so much like something that would have happened in my house years ago. LOL.
Tested the water again today and still no ammonia or nitrites so the establish media is working.
These guys are super entertaining! I have an RTS in another tank in the kitchen and half the time he just hides when he sees us. The puffers come out to the glass. Well, 2 of them do. One isn't quite as bold.
I plan on adding more plants to thicken it up. I need to add a little substrate too. I didn't start with quite enough.
