Are my baby Platy fish pregnant?
Ok so my female Platy had 4 fry about 4 months ago (they are almost fully grown) she has now gone to fishy heaven.... ALL 4 of her babies are female and I have 2 male platy fish in my tank.... Now I am thinking all 4 are pregnant 2 further along than the others... is it possible for them to be pregnant this early or are they just growing/getting fat?..... this is my first large fish tank (I have owned a betta before)... but I am not new to caring for fish and they are definitely thriving in my tank... just cant find any info on how young live bearers start to have babies of their own?
Uhm...I think they hit sexual maturity at around four-six months of age, but they're probably not if they only just hit it. When female live-bearers start filling out, they can get that really chubby look, some more than others because they have better egg growth. It's possible they are though, but probably not. lol
My molly fry like to hit that extreme chubby look when they get past three months old, and I'm not sure if it's egg growth, or some growth spurt...sometimes they over-eat because it's just so easy to over-feed youngins! ><
I agree with Sylverclaws. It's a wait and see situation. Platys in general can get quite chubby.
