Amazon swords issue
I've had one in my 55 gallon for about 8 months now and I constantly get at least a new leaf sometimes 2 a week but rather than growing tall it grows wide. Currently I have a single 48' t8 on it ,also ran 2 t8s on it with same results . I have root tabs by it and dose liquid flourish accordingly with whatever bulbs I ran. Ph is 8.2-8.4 GH 12. Any reason why it grows wide instead of tall like its suppose to?
All of my swords do grow outwards, along with upwards. Some are nearly as wide as they are tall.
it seems to be the plant because mine does that too.its just because the stage it is in its life it will continue to do that and there isnt much you can do unless you trim the leafs.
By "wide" I assume you mean the leaves fan out, and not the width of the individual leaves. How long are the leaves? And which species? I would assume Echinodorus bleherae [or E. grisebachii depending] if it is the commonly-seen "sword." All of the species in Echinodorus can be variable in appearance depending upon several factors. Sometimes lower light will cause the plant to grow taller. But two T8 tubes over a 4-foot tank is not "bright" so in your situation I would not expect much difference.
