GH & KH Test results.
Just done tests for gh and kh and had the following results.
kh 9 drops = 161ppm
gh 24 drops = 400ppm+
Suggestions please as I'm not happy wth the GH result.
Have you thought about Rift Valley cichlids or livebearers?
In all seriousness that's very hard water. Even with a 50% RO mix it will still be on the hard side. What kind of fish had you planned to keep?
Well, a 50% mix would get you down to 12 dGH but that would still be a little on the hard side.
Your hard water is good for live bearers and african cichlids as mentioned.
If a large tank doing an RO mixture will be costly unless you get a lot of rainfall reliably. So you may want to stick with hard water fish.
You can do higher than a 50% mix but that increases the cost.
Agree with others. But a question: was this the tank water or the tap water you tested? If the tap, you can verify this with the water supply board just to ensure the numbers are accurate. If it was the tank, is this different from the tap? I ask because any calcareous substances in the tank would raise the GH and KH. It is the source water (tap) that is important as the GH and KH will usually not alter significantly in the tank unless they are being targeted by something.
