My black molly yesterday had some sort of fungal infection on him, but it has cleared up completely today. All the same, I found a place that had Melafix and Pimafix at a reasonable price, so I now have an 8 oz. bottle of each. If this infection comes back, I need to know a safe dosage, so the other inhabitants aren't harmed. I have a betta and corydoras in this tank, so how much do I have to dilute it to make it safe for them? I sealed up my cracked six gallon tank, so if I really had to, I could use it as a hospital tank, but I don't have an extra heater to use. I also don't quite trust it to hold water for very long, even though it showed no signs of leaking when I tested the effectiveness of the aquarium sealant I used. So how much do I have to dilute the medication? I know bettas and scaless fish are sensitive to medications, so I wanted to check here first. Thanks in advance.
A betta isn't going to tolerate more than a 1/2 strength dose, nor will the cory cat. You would still be better to treat in a quarantine tank if possible. The problem you may run into with those meds is that they are already not very potent, so at 1/2 strength, it may not do much good for resolving your problem.
An alternative for you that all 3 can handle would be fungus eliminator and methylene blue combination. The salt would do the molly a lot of good, tho the betta and cory won't tolerate it in the main tank. Mollys without salt are prone to infections, both bacterial and fungal. Might want to keep this in mind and consider seperating them full time.
Thank you, bettababy. I will probably separate them for quarantine at least. I need to go out and get another heater though. It's lucky for me that the aquarium sealant worked.
