Yet another pregnant red platy!! This will be my 3rd batch of babies in the last 4 months! So off to the nursery tank she goes, with the babies from the last red platy (about 3 weeks old) they're big enough to not be eaten by the pregnant mom. Just tonight i saw another pregnant female in my other tank...sheeesh! I know there are some members that are fanatic about keeping as many babies as they can. Or there are those that "let nature take its course" I don't have anyone to give babies to and my pet store will not accept babies and i only have so much room in my other tanks. I'm in the process of setting up my 46 front bow tank but I want to put other kinds of fish in there not just red platy babies that i keep having. Not sure yet what i'm going to do. |
Thats kind of the problem with livebearers isn't it? I personally leave the babies to fend for themselves in the tank. (meaning I let the mom give birth in the main tank, and then I catch any babies I can find). I know this sounds really cruel, but you could always use them as a food source... (that is if you are really desperate to get rid of them) Otherwise, perhaps craigslist? |
I just knew she would have her babies by this weekend :-P I moved the ornament and there they were  So now i have 3 batches of red platy's at 3 different "stages" of life  Just a bit more incentive to get my big tank cycled/planted. I'll snap some pics tomorrow. Night night |
